"Vera and the Rubberducklings"

I was minding my own business, practising wave painting, and suddenly, there they were again. I'm posting them just for fun, because of the joy and whimsicality.

"Vera and the Rubberducklings"

Vera, the slightly mad penguin, was just taking her morning swim —
not wearing lipstick, by the way —
when she met the rubberducklings.
They were swimming desperately, chasing what seemed to be their only hope.

Not that rubberducklings can swim.
But let’s say they can.
Let’s say they do —
out here in the open ocean.

Vera dozed off for a moment.
And when the water filled her beak,
and she could taste the bitter sting of rosemary bubble bath,
she woke.
She flapped her fins.

And the rubberducklings,
who might have been swimming in the ocean,
flew straight out of the bathtub.

“Oh my,” Vera said.
“The water is cold.”

Vera had a not entirely comforting family moment.
